Discover 8 fashion trends that are set to take over in 2023
A new year is approaching, and that means a whole new set of trends in the fashion world. For the last few years, fashion has been relatively simple and neutral, due to most of the world spending majority of the time indoors.
However, as we are coming to the end of this period, more people are going out, trying new things, and being bold; and it seems fashion is doing the same. Over this next year, fashion will be bold, out there, and made up of things you probably wouldn’t have dared to wear last year; but that’s the great thing about fashion.
In this post, I have shared 8 fashion trend predictions set to take over in 2023. All these trends are great as not only are they all super wearable, but they are great ways to step out of your comfort zone and try a style you may not have tried before. So, if you want to get an idea of what fashion pieces you should buy, this is for you.

1. Cut outs
Cut out details were one of the hottest trends in 2021, and it looks like it’s here to stay in 2022. Not only were all the Instagram models wearing them, but they were hugely popular on red carpets too. We can see why this is a popular trend as the cut out details instantly make an outfit sexier and give it a daring feel to it.The 2022 take on the cut out details looks like a more extreme version of what we’ve seen before.
We can expect to see more asymmetrical cuts and intricate layering alongside keyholes; these cuts are a great feature for day-to-night looks and make a simple outfit more daring. A great way to style the cut out design is an asymmetric cut out top with leather trousers for a day-to-evening look, a nice black midi dress with keyholes for a night out, or so many other ways.

2. Mini Skirts
Midi and maxi skirts have been a craze for the last few years, but it looks like in 2022, it’s all about the mini skirts. Mini skirts were popular in the 90s to 00s, and they, once again, are coming back into fashion.
If you’re not into the tight-fitted tube type skirt that comes to mind when you hear mini skirts, then you might prefer a pleated tennis skirt, a flowy mini tea dress, or even a leather number; there are many styles for everyone.
The mini-skirt trend isn’t everyone’s taste on its own, but you can definitely style it into something you would wear. So, for example, if you don’t like the mini-skirt trend because you’re not too keen on showing so much leg, then you could pair it with a pair of tights, patterned or plain, for a little bit more coverage.
You could also put contrasting pieces together; for example, you could add an oversized jumper with a mini skirt, so you’re all covered up on top and then showing some leg or add pair some knee-high boots to the outfit to keep yourself covered, but still looking stylish and on-trend.

3. Sparkle and Glitter
Sparkle and glitter are always popular towards the end of the year with the holiday and party season, but it looks like it’s here to stay through to 2022. Sparkles and glitter are not only going to be worn at parties and on nights out, but it looks like we’ll be wearing them in our everyday outfits too.
Now, while you might not wear a sequin dress to go food shopping or to your local coffee shop, you may be deciding to add small touches of sparkle to your casual everyday looks.
You can do this in many ways, but if you want to start slow, you can add some sparkle to your accessories like your bag or jewellery. If you want to be more daring, you can try a sequin top or sparkle trousers with a more neutral pairing item. Even though all the designers are all for daytime sparkle and glitter, do you think it’s a trend you’ll be hopping on?

4. Fringe
The fringe detail is back. Fringes were meant to be a huge trend in early 2020; however, as we know, 2020 didn’t go to plan, so it’s back to have its moment in 2022. This is a fun trend that adds excitement and movement to your outfits.
Before, we have seen the fringe trend at the bottom hemlines on tops, jackets, and even on trousers, but this time around, it seems that we’re going to see it more around the top on blazers, coats, and more unique styles.
I think the great thing about this trend is that you can wear it in so many styles and outfits. You can layer with different looks, with the fringe piece being the statement of the outfit paired with a simple outfit and minimal accessories.
Wearing clothes with fringes is a great way to try something new and step out of your comfort zone. Even though it may be a big change for you, it’s a simple trend that you can incorporate into your everyday outfits, so don’t be afraid to add some fringe pieces to your wardrobe.

5. Bold Colours
Neutral tones have been popular for a while now, but in 2022 they will be taken over by bold colours. In summer 2021, we saw the rise of bold colours and colour blocking, which we will see a lot more of in 2022.
This next year is all about the bold colour combinations and creating a statement look that is almost clashing. A few of the colours we’ll be seeing throughout this year are lemon yellow, pastel pinks, and red and orange tones such as saffron.
From fashion predictions, over the next year, we will see fewer nude tones; this isn’t to say neutral shades will be entirely out as they will always be a staple, but more people will be choosing colours over the nudes in the upcoming seasons. Although this is a trend that will create vibrant and in your face outfits, it’s an easy trend that you can incorporate in literally every outfit you wear.
For example, you can wear a blazer and skirt co-ord in bright red or pink and pair with simple accessories for a formal, going out look, or if you aren’t ready to go all out on the colour, then you can pair jeans and a basic top with a bright coloured jacket or handbag. You don’t need to be head to toe in bright colours, but you will be seeing more colours in your outfits one way or another.

6. Catsuits
If you love jumpsuits, then you’re going to love this trend as catsuits are back in 2022. Catsuits are frequently worn by many celebrities at events and equally in their everyday lives. So, if you are looking to elevate your wardrobe in 2022, a catsuit is a must.
What’s great about catsuits is they are always the statement piece. No matter what, they are the complete outfit, so they require less outfit planning, and they only need minimal accessories. You can wear them both casually and dressy; they also make great day-to-night outfits, so if you’re feeling a bit lazy or want something with minimal styling, then catsuits are your go-to.
If you aren’t too comfortable wearing a catsuit on its own and showing off your body, you can layer it with an oversized jacket or jumper for a cool, edgy look that also covers your body up a bit more. Equally, you can wear it on its own, whether it’s a casual one for the day or a more sexy style for a night out; you’ll definitely be the centre of attention.

7. Y2K
If you loved the fashion trends in the early 2000s, then you’re going to love what’s about to come this year. All the trends we loved, including the low-rise jeans, cardigans, and everything butterflies, are all making their comeback, and we can’t wait.
And I’m sure when you think of Y2K, all the classic looks from teen films come to mind, but there are so many simple ways to make it look more grown-up and chic rather than everything being baby pink and butterfly theme. You need a key’ Y2 K’ fashion piece and pair it with simple and minimal accessories to give it a more classier, put together outfit.
You can incorporate the Y2K fashion trends in your everyday looks in the most simple ways. You can pair your favourite jeans with a cropped cardigan and a pair of trainers for a casual look and then swap them out for a scarf top and a pair of platform heels for a dressier night out outfit.
Trends like Y2K coming back into fashion are great as they are so easy to implement into your everyday style; you most likely already own items that fit the aesthetic already; it’s all about how you wear your wardrobe.

8. Oversized Bags
For the longest time now, micro bags have been a fashion craze, and although we all loved it, it’s time for a switch-up. Big bags are back; the biggest, most bulkiest bags are going to be the thing of 2022. Tote and shopper style bags are going to be the go to this year; whether they are classic leather bags or fabric everyday bags, they are going to be the perfect accessory for every outfit.
Not only is it going to be a super stylish trend, but it’s going to be so practical too. Although the micro bags were cute and chic, they were highly unpractical as you couldn’t really fit anything in them; but now, with the big bag trend, you’ll be able to fit everything and more in them. So, whether it’s a daytime look or an evening outfit, a big bag will always look good and will work with most outfits.
Summary
I hope this has helped you get ready for the fashion trends of 2022 and helped you figure out what you’ll be adding to your wardrobe for the following year. For some, trends are great, and they are a great way of switching up your wardrobe and trying something new, but for others, they’d rather stay away from trends and have a more staple wardrobe.
